GMC produces the Sierra 1500 with four engine options. Even the base 2.7-liter TurboMax™ engine offers impressive power for your trips to San Bernardino, CA. Some drivers need maximum towing. For the GMC Sierra 1500, that means ordering your truck with the 3.0-liter Duramax® turbo diesel engine. It puts out 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. With the right trailering package and transmission, the Durmax® engine will tow 13,200 pounds around Riverside, CA. In its most efficient configuration, the Durmax® engine also delivers an EPA-estimated 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway when driving without a load. All versions of the new GMC Sierra 1500 come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear- and front-wheel drivetrains are available throughout the Sierra lineup, too.

Design

The GMC Sierra 1500 looks bigger than many other models in the full-size truck segment. It features a large bumper and a wide grille. Apostrophe-shaped headlamps give the Sierra 1500 a distinctive look from the front. The ground clearance for the Sierra 1500 varies between 7.9 and 8.1 inches on most of the trims. The most off-road capable version has 11.1 inches of ground clearance. Optional wheel sizes range from 17 to 22 inches.

You can order the GMC Sierra 1500 with a regular cab that pairs with either an 80- or 98-inch bed. There is also a double cab with an 80-inch bed and a crew cab with a bed that's 70 inches. Finally, you can order a crew cab with an 80-inch bed. The double and crew cabs seat up to six people, while the regular cab seats three. The interior is gorgeous. Contrasting tones and high-quality stitching give the GMC Sierra a luxe vibe. You can choose seating materials ranging from premium cloth to leather.

Key Features

The base trim's infotainment display is seven inches diagonally, but from the next level up, the display is 13.4 inches. From the SLE trim upward, there is also a digital instrument cluster. The higher trims include a heads-up display. All Sierra trims are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

GMC includes some of the most interesting bed options on the market, too. You can purchase the Sierra 1500 with a carbon fiber composite bed that's lighter and stronger than the standard option. There is also a bedside utility wall package and a bed-view camera. The GMC Multipro Tailgate even offers a step to make getting in and out of the bed easier.

Safety

Several safety technologies are standard on all versions of the Sierra 1500. These amenities include lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision mitigation, and blind zone alerts.

Trim Levels

The Pro is the entry-level trim, but the SLE offers plenty of cost-effective upgrades for a little more money. If you want a more stylish version, upgrade to the Elevation.
